Valentino Rossi has conceded he must work extra hard to ensure he is fit enough to be back in his motorcycle clothing in time for the official MotoGP testing session in Sepang.

Speaking to MotoGP.com, he explained that his poor performance in the Valencia was down to the pain he had in his shoulder, which has now been corrected with surgery.

He explained that the Ducati is a more aggressive bike than the Yamaha, and his shoulder could simply not handle the extra workload.

Rossi has described the 2011 Desmosedici with its new Ohlins forks as a "proper prototype", different to those produced by Japanese manufacturers, but he is still struggling to adjust to life in Ducati motorcycle clothing.

"I feel quite strange speaking in red! We were always big enemies with Ducati, so I need time to feel normal in this shirt!" he told the website.

Rossi joins Nicky Hayden at Ducati, with Australian Casey Stoner moving to Honda to form part of a three-rider line-up at the factory team.
