Ben Spies' first outing in Yamaha factory motorcycle leathers is producing very promising results as the manufacturer continues to set the pace.

Spies and teammate Jorge Lorenzo lapped at consistently quick speeds, despite testing new parts and updated Ohlins forks throughout the session.

Spending must of the second session of the day in second place on the timesheets, Spies managed to complete 60 laps on the factory M1.

The American rider reflected that the team have made a lot of progress with the development of the bike, and remain confident about their prospects for 2011.

"We got a lot accomplished today, tomorrow we've got a couple more things on the engine to look at and we're going to try some tyres for Bridgestone," he said.

Spies replaces Italian rider Valentino Rossi, who left Yamaha at the end of the 2010 campaign after seven years with the team, accumulating 46 race wins and four world titles in the process.
