The new-look Yamaha World Superbike team has been testing its new Ohlins suspensions systems in Valencia.

Italian rider Marco Melandri left the MotoGP class this autumn in search of a new challenge and a bike that could help him win races, and the veteran seemed very pleased with his new machine.

The team tested the new Ohlins forks on the YZF-R1 machine, and Melandri really began to get a feeling for them after an initial period of adjustment to the bigger bike.

"In the beginning it was a completely different feeling to a MotoGP bike, much bigger! Lap by lap the feeling got better and better and I really enjoyed it," he said.

Also putting on his motorcycle clothing for the Valencia test was Northern Irishman Eugene Laverty, who will partner Melandri in the World Superbike Championship.

It has been all change at the top Yamaha racing teams this summer, with the MotoGP team adjusting to the departure of nine-time champion Valentino Rossi.
