Motorcycle rider protection and Ohlins shock absorbers could prove key to bikers this winter, with road conditions expected to deteriorate even further.

UK roads will undergo serious deterioration owing to the recent and ongoing extreme weather, according to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

A growth in the number of potholes on Britain's roads is expected to double the cost of running a vehicle, so Ohlins shocks could prove crucial for riding comfort and the longevity of motorcycles travelling along damaged stretches of road.

Neil Greig, IAM director of policy and research, explained: "Drivers will be rightly incensed that cutbacks on essential road spending are taking place while they are being forced to dig deeper to stay mobile."

Winter weather has already proved costly for many motorcyclists and drivers, who will have lost their no claims bonus after being forced to contact their insurer following a breakdown.

On December 20th, AA insurance noted that it had seen a doubling in the number of car insurance claims compared to a normal December Monday.
