Wirral-based bikers that own machines featuring expensive Ohlins suspension systems will no doubt be reassured by a new security scheme.

Council officers from the Wirral Community Safety Team have launched a crime prevention campaign, developed in partnership with Merseyside Police.

The scheme is intended as a response to a recent spate of motorcycle thefts in the region, which have no doubt caused concern among bikers, worried that their vehicle may not be there after they have pulled on their motorcycle gloves.

Merseyside Police Crime Reduction Officer Keith Winstanley explained: "I would advise owners to fit or engage a steering lock and also use a strong steel cable with a good padlock to attach the bike/scooter to a security rail or ground anchors.

"A combined alarm / immobiliser can be professionally fitted."

In December, Wirral Council also took extra measures to ensure that bikers and other residents affected by extreme weather conditions have as few problems as possible.

The area’s primary road networks were serviced by the authority's gritting team throughout the bad weather, laying 480 tonnes in a single weekend.
