Casey Stoner will return to MotoGP next month, as it has emerged that he will be testing a new Honda factory bike for the team at Motegi.

The retired rider will be at the Honda-owned track in Japan for the two-day test on August 6th-7th, where his speed and experience will be used to help the team develop their 2014 factory RC213V model.

Commentators have pointed out that the tests will be reminiscent of Stoner’s 2012 season. The bike will be set up in the same way as the model he rode at Motegi a year ago, while it is rumoured that a set of 2012 Ohlins forks are being flown in directly from Laguna Seca. Cristian Gabbarini, Stoner’s former crew chief, is now technical supervisor at Repsol Honda.

The Aussie retired straight after the last race of 2012 in Valencia but will be involved in four tests for the Japanese team over the next couple of months. He will be fitting his Honda commitments around his V8 Supercar schedule back home.
